Genealogy Contact Information

Many of our requests for information are based on a need for genealogical research assistance or other genealogical information. This section will help you find the right source for the information you seek.

  • Research Assistance
At this time, ETHS cannot provide research assistance via email. Our staff and time resources do not allow for us to provide this service. Throughout the year, ETHS offers a variety of genealogy programs and workshops that may be able to help you get started in your research. We always recommend a visit to the McClung Historical Collection here at the East Tennessee History Center where you may find reference resources of use to you.

If you cannot visit the McClung Collection personally, the library does provide for fee-based research on some topics. For a fee, the staff of the McClung Collection will attempt to answer basic genealogical or historical questions by correspondence. Only indexed sources will be searched. A fee schedule is available.

A list of genealogists who can be hired to assist with complicated research questions is also available on request. A self-addressed stamped envelope is required for reply.

To request information on how to contact the staff of the McClung Collection for fee-based research or to request the library's list of professional genealogists in the area, visit the McClung Historical Society's web site at http://www.knoxlib.org/mcclung.htm
