Teachers’ workshops



The East Tennessee Historical Society takes pride in offering professional development programs for regional social studies teachers. The summer Teachers History Institute is a successful, week-long program offered during June of each year (grant funding pending).

The 10th Annual Teachers History Institute, "Freedom Spirit:  Tennessee and the Civil Rights Movement," will be held June 1-6, 2008.  Fifteen Tennessee social studies teachers will be selected to participate in this all expenses paid institute which is funded through a grant from Humanities Tennessee, an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.  Click here to download a brochure outlining the week's experience and itinerary, as well as applicaition guidelines.  If you are unable to download the brochure, please contact Lisa at 865-215-8828 or email .


NHD Workshops



National History Day workshops are held periodically at the East Tennessee Historical Society, 601 S. Gay Street across from the Tennessee Theater in downtown Knoxville, in September 2008.  ETHS staff can also bring a workshop to your school or community.

Institute Application Guidelines

Teacher's Institute

The East Tennessee Historical Society will take applications for the Teachers History Institute after January of the institute year. The deadline will be April 15th of each year. Read more....
